Industry Bills, Laws and Regulations That Affect You

Past President Dave Johnson, First Vice President Lynn Berger, and President Craig Eney represented BOMA Baltimore at BOMA International's Issues Conference / Day on the Hill in Washington, DC in 2009

BOMA Baltimore represents the commercial property management industry in the state legislature and at city and county governments in the Baltimore Metro area. Advocacy is at the core of BOMA Baltimore's mission. Through the efforts of our lobbyists and dedicated members of the legislative committee, your voice is heard on issues that affect you such as proposed tax increases, mandatory retrofitting of building systems, and incentives for energy efficiency.

In 2009, BOMA Baltimore assisted in drafting legislation which allows private contractors to inspect elevators, alleviating the chronic backlog of inspections in the state. The association also monitored legislation related to development, stormwater management, electricity regulation, and environmentally conscious building construction and planning. Baltimore City issues followed by BOMA include historic tax credits and an increase in the parking tax.
